Law School Applications Reach Record High for 2026

Law school demand continues to rise, with applications for fall 2026 reaching another record level. New statistics from the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) show applications are 10.8% higher than last year and 35.5% above the level recorded two years ago.

The number of people applying to law school also grew. LSAC reported a 7.9% increase from last year and a 27.4% rise compared with two years ago. The figures point to sustained interest in legal education rather than a short-term jump.

Regional data shows notable gains across several parts of the country. Applicants in the Mountain West increased 12% from last year. The Great Lakes and Northwest each rose 9.6%, while the Midwest climbed 9.5%.

Application growth was even stronger in some regions. New England recorded a 14.3% increase, followed by the Northeast at 13.1% and the Midwest at 13%.

LSAT Participation Also Grows

Interest in law school is also reflected in testing activity. The number of LSAT examinees increased 13.3% year over year, while first-time test-takers rose 7.2%.

The latest LSAC figures show that both applications and testing activity are moving upward. With application volume now significantly above levels seen two years ago, fall 2026 could bring another highly competitive admissions cycle.

Law school applications have reached another record for fall 2026, supported by increases in applicants and LSAT participation. Regional gains across the country also show that the rise in demand extends well beyond a single area.
