In May of last year, Oscar McCracken stepped into the professional boxing ring for the first time. He won on points against Sam Kirk. Just a few months later, he repeated the feat, defeating Paul Scaife in August. Two fights, two wins – both at Birmingham Airport’s Holiday Inn, both fought over four rounds.

However, it is not just his skills that make him stand out. The Birmingham-based fighter attracts a loyal crowd. Over 250 fans, many of them fellow Birmingham City supporters, turned up to cheer him on. They were not disappointed. McCracken showcased his talent, proving that his name belongs in the boxing world just as much as it does in law.

Having the McCracken name comes with advantages and challenges. His father and brother run McCracken’s Gym, a respected training ground near Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. This Friday, McCracken will fight again at the Holiday Inn. But he won’t know his opponent until the night itself. That is just the nature of early professional boxing. The uncertainty doesn’t faze him. He trains hard, knowing that stepping into the ring is just another test – like those he aces in law.

Becoming a fully qualified solicitor while continuing his boxing career.

Of course, it is an unusual combination. Most fighters focus solely on their sport, while aspiring solicitors dedicate their time to legal studies and internships. McCracken juggles both. His days are spent in the gym and the law office. His nights are spent refining his craft in the ring. He is as comfortable throwing a punch as he is drafting legal documents.

As McCracken’s career progresses, the inevitable question looms – will he continue in boxing? Or will he trade in his gloves for a legal robe? Right now, it is a split decision. He is undefeated in the ring and excelling in law. There is no rush to choose just yet.
